Why this blog exists:
I am 62 years old, and although I work from home in New York for my nonprofit, I was in Alabama on business when my life changed in an instant. I was walking across the street on my way back to my hotel when I was struck by a car. A brain injury was one of the results of that incident, and my recovery has taken me through two incredible rehabilitation centers.
Today, I live with deep thankfulness to God for allowing me to survive, gratitude to my devoted family and friends, and profound respect for the strength, patience, and expert care shown to me by my recovery teams. I am also learning how to embrace my new life with awareness, grace, and hope.
I created The Evolving Room as a way to give back — to share what I’ve learned, to support others walking a similar path, and to build a space where no one has to navigate recovery alone.
Past & Present Reflection Page
At the end of every blog we have added a special section with two gentle prompts dedicated to helping members explore where they’ve come from, where they are now, and who they are becoming.
Resources Page
Included in the blog is our Resources Page where members can find helpful information, recommended programs, and supportive tools for life after brain injury ,stroke or traumatic life experiences. This page is designed to grow over time as we share meaningful links, recovery-focused organizations, educational materials, and personal recommendations from our community. These resources are not endorsed or given as professional guidance but chosen from personal experience or trusted referrals to support every part of the healing journey — emotional wellness, physical recovery, cognitive rebuilding, practical life skills, and community support.
